Service Learning in the Cemetery

Wooderson Cemetery dates back to Civil War times, but had not been well maintained over the years. The students of Thayer Learning Center set to work restoring the grounds, raking up debris and setting fallen tombstones upright again. After trimming trees and cleaning up the area, students rebuilt a proper entrance to the cemetery.

While working on this service project, students learned about the people burried in Wooderson Cemetery, the history of the Civil War, and the sacrifices made by thousands of people. An important lesson about respecting those who have passed on and contributing to the community.

“Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it” ~George Santayana
